How To Love Yourself Unconditionally in 5 Simple Ways

how to love yourself unconditionally

“If you can learn to love yourself and all the flaws, you can love other people so much better. And that makes you so happy” — Kristin Chenoweth

I used to hate myself. I didn’t feel I was good enough. I didn’t feel I had what it took to achieve anything in life. I over compensated for everyone else. I tried too hard to get people to like me and of course, I received intense rejection every single day.

If you don’t love yourself, you will never find the courage to dream. If you don’t love yourself unconditionally, you will eventually lose valuable relationships. If you don’t love yourself, you will become dull and lifeless.

It’s the norm to be self-centered these days. Being self-centered might seem like you love yourself but this is not often the case. Loving yourself does not mean posting pictures of yourself every day on Instagram or Facebook.

Sometimes, this gives you away as an insecure person. You need the attention of other people to feel complete. Your self-esteem is measured by how many ‘likes’ your picture gets.

Loving yourself is when you appreciate your gifts, talents, calling and personality. Loving yourself unconditionally means you accept yourself, your weaknesses and your strengths.

How do you come to the place where you learn how to love yourself unconditionally?

I was insecure. I focused on what other people thought about me. I didn’t care about my own thoughts. It mattered more to me if someone else told me I was beautiful. I couldn’t look in the mirror and tell myself I was beautiful.

I was afraid to go to places like the beauty salon or the clubs because I felt inferior to other people. I didn’t want to be seen or heard. I didn’t want to be judged. I didn’t want people to realize I was a nobody.

One day, I walked into a beauty salon and told the hairdresser I wanted to cut my hair. I was shaking; it was scary. I looked at all the beautiful ladies and I didn’t feel good enough. I finally did it! I cut my hair!

The past three years have been a journey of discovering myself and learning to love me unconditionally. I am not perfect but I am learning to accept myself the way I am and bring out the best in me.

5 simple ways you can start loving yourself unconditionally

“What a rebellious act it is to love yourself naturally in a world of fake appearances” — Nikki Rowe

1. Write in your journal every day

Focus on writing your story. Write down three things you are grateful for every day. The three things I am grateful for today are:

  • My amazing family and friends
  • My love for writing
  • My faith

2. Remove toxic relationships from your life

Having toxic relationships in your life won’t do you any good. You need to let them go immediately.

3. Give yourself permission to follow your heart

What dream do you have locked away in the deep corners of your heart? Give yourself permission to achieve your dream.

4. Forgive yourself for past mistakes

Stop beating yourself up. Forgive yourself from your past. The past is simply what it is; the past. Leave it there.

5. Show love and kindness to others

There’s a beautiful feeling which comes from feeling needed. Reach out today to help someone. Show love to someone who can’t pay you back.

You need to learn how to love yourself unconditionally no matter what happens.

What is happening in your life right now?

  • Are you going through a financial crisis? Love yourself.
  • Do you feel like giving up? Love yourself.
  • Has life dealt you heavy blows and you can’t seem to get back up? Love yourself.

Learning how to love yourself unconditionally comes from a place of deep gratitude. When you are grateful, you love yourself more. You accept the fact you are not perfect but life is beautiful.

Learning to love yourself is a rewarding experience.

“Love yourself first and everything else falls in line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world” — Lucille Ball

I attracted amazing people into my life when I learned to love myself.

Do you feel insecure? Do you feel not good enough? Write down at least one thing every day you are grateful for. This will give you a completely different perspective and you will experience the beauty in life.

Stop waiting to feel secure. Learn how to love yourself unconditionally no matter how you feel right now.
